Could the next generation of semiconductors be invented at the University of Arkansas? Will autonomous, advanced freight mobility systems be created here? Can researchers give people with amputations prosthetics that deliver a meaningful sense of touch? Because of the University’s continual quest for research excellence, the answer to all three might be “yes” – and sooner than we imagine. Perhaps more importantly: Could today’s biology student be tomorrow’s researcher who cures cancer? Could this year’s new faculty hire catalyze the next “green revolution?” These possibilities are what motivate and animate the University’s research enterprise.

Our faculty conduct a tremendous breadth and depth of research and scholarship across all disciplines to create and disseminate knowledge, find solutions to everyday problems and contribute to a strong economy and resilient communities. The highlights below are only a fraction of our excellence, but they are illustrative of the importance of research to advancing society. With the “150 Forward” strategic planning process underway, it is an exciting time for me to be entrusted with the interim leadership of the Division of Research and Innovation as we define how our land-grant mission compels us to continually achieve research excellence.
